Leadership Team Effectiveness: Navigating Change & Building Resilience

THE CHALLENGE:
A team of leaders in the retail industry, operating in a high-pressure environment marked by organizational shifts, including a CEO transition and cost-cutting initiatives, needed support with improving their team dynamics. While the team was functionally strong, these external pressures created internal tensions, affecting communication and psychological safety. They needed a partner to help resolve conflicts and build unified leadership during a period of uncertainty.
ACTION
We first administered EQi 2.0™ assessments for each leader. We chose this instrument as high levels of emotional intelligence are a strong indicator of leadership effectiveness. We conducted both individual interviews and small focus groups with the entire leadership team and developed an assessment report detailing our findings and recommendations.
OUR PROCESS
We partnered with the team for over a year, serving as an objective facilitator and advisor to help them evolve their dynamics through a period of significant change:
Team Dynamics Assessment: We conducted a deep-dive assessment to uncover the team's strengths and identify specific skills that needed strengthening.
Psychological Safety & EQ-i Work: We utilized the EQ-i 2.0® assessment to help each leader understand their own "conditioned tendencies" and how those behaviors showed up under stress.
Facilitated Team Alignment Sessions: Over a year, we led a series of high-stakes sessions focused on navigating conflict, building resilience, and establishing a shared vision for how the team would collaborate moving forward.
Leadership Transition Support: We designed "new team member" prep sessions to integrate incoming leaders and maintain team continuity during executive-level turnover.
WHAT WE DELIVERED: THE IMPACT
Revised team agreements on communication and accountability, and an action plan for group and individual development.
Facilitated workshops on Psychological Safety, Conflict Resolution, Stress Management, and Change Agility.
Individual and group coaching to support the implementation of new team norms.
