THE CHALLENGE

A nonprofit organization that supports families and youth through various development and community programs were in need of support in making meaningful progress toward their vision of operating as an anti-racist organization. To fulfill their mission of serving the community, they needed to first strengthen their internal leadership pipeline and build a culture where "brave conversations" and psychological safety were the norm, not the exception.

OUR PROCESS

Since 2021, The Cee Suite, alongside our partner, Dr. Jamila Codrington, has served as an embedded strategic partner, evolving from an initial assessment team into long-term advisors on team effectiveness and leadership strategy.

  • We conducted an organization-wide assessment that included staff and community surveys and focus groups, a review of their internal practices and policy documents, and interviews with senior leadership. We worked closely with the organization’s Anti-racism Steering Committee to guide project goals, gather feedback, and gain critical insights in navigating the organization.

  • We provide monthly expert guidance to the CEO and Chief Strategy Officer to develop and implement a high-level leadership development strategy.

  • We developed and delivered in-depth training using experiential methodologies to give supervisors practical, "real-world" skills they could use immediately with their teams.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

  • Assessment & Roadmap: A multi-year strategy for policy revision, organization-wide learning needs, and accountability.

  • Supervisory & Executive Training: Ongoing live and e-modules focused on psychological safety, inclusive management, and navigating the complexities of race within the child welfare system. Staff processing and team sessions designed specifically for the unique challenges of the nonprofit’s staff and the families they support.

THE IMPACT

  • Our Psychological Safety and "Brave Conversations" training has received an average 4.73 out of 5 stars from over 340 participants.

  • The organization has seen a progressive increase in staff scores on annual organization-wide psychological safety surveys.
